Movies and Stuff
Inspired by Rick who was inspired by Matt who was inspired by Geoff.
Name one movie that:
1. Made you laugh
The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005) -- I'm a Steve Carrell fan. The Wedding Singer (1998) definitely has to be mentioned as well. I still get the giggles over Alexis Arquette's rendition of Do You Really Want To Hurt Me? at a wedding reception.
2. Made you cry
Eight Below (2006), the Disney film about sled dogs left behind in the Antarctic and rescued after six months. I bawled.
3. You loved when you were a kid
The Little Mermaid (1989). I can still sing some of the songs. ("The seaweed is always greener, in somebody else's lake...").
4. You’ve seen more than once
Love Actually (2003). Own the DVD. Watch once a year, usually around Christmas. Also, Monsters, Inc. (2001), maybe every two years.
5. You loved but were embarrassed to admit it
I wouldn't be embarrassed by anything I loved. Like Newsies (1992), where a young Christian Bale may be seen singing and dancing.
6. You hated
Terry Gilliam's The Brothers Grimm (2005). Hated hated hated. Loathed, even.
7. Scared you
Ju-on/The Grudge (2003). The Japanese original. It takes a fair bit to scare me, and this one made me yelp a few times.
8. Bored you
Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain (2005). I was surprised by just how much it bored me.
9. Made you happy
Toss-up between Amelie (2001) and Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
10. Made you miserable
Minsan Lang Sila Bata (Children Only Once, 1996), a Filipino documentary about child labour.
11. You weren’t brave enough to see
The Exorcist (1973). Still can't bring myself to watch it even though I've tried.
12. One character you’ve fallen in love with
Drew Barrymore's character, Danielle, in Ever After (1998). She was cute, outspoken, tough (yet also vulnerable in some ways) and most of all, didn't need rescuing. I sighed when she came to the ball wearing wings.
13. The last movie you saw
The Lives of Others (2006) on Foxtel. A fantastic German film about a Gestapo officer who is transformed by his surveillance of a playwright and his girlfriend.
14. The next movie you hope to see
The Painted Veil (2006), with Ed Norton and Naomi Watts. It's a bit old, but my chances of seeing anything new at the cinema have gotten slim lately.
